Older children need homes, too.
There are over 10,000 children in Washington State in foster care, and of these children, 50% are between the ages of 8-17 years old. On average, a child in foster care waits more than five years to be adopted.
Wendy's Wonderful Kids, a national program of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, was established to encourage adoption from the foster care system. The program, available at Children’s Home Society of Washington, provides two full-time family recruiters to match parents with children awaiting adoption.
Children’s Home Society of Washington and the Dave Thomas Foundation believe that no child is unadoptable, and every child deserves to live in a safe, loving, forever family.
Trained adoption recruiters provide you with:
- Education on the process of adopting from foster care
- Referral to home study agencies, including our very own
- Support through the placement process
- Access to profiles of waiting children
