Search and Reunion Services
Search and Reunion is a unique program in which Children's Home Society of Washington (CHSW) acts as a confidential intermediary and conducts a search for adoptees and birth parents separated through adoption.
We offer the following services:
- Non-Identifying Family History Report. This report includes medical and background information on the adoptee’s birth parents, minus any data that would identify the child or birth parent.
- Search and Reunion. A confidential intermediary can search for and discreetly contact the birth parent or adopted person. If he/she is no longer living, the intermediary may attempt to locate other members of the birth parent or adopted person's family.
- Record Inspection. For people who aren’t sure which agency was used for the adoption, we can search our adoption files to learn whether or not CHSW was the placing agency.
- Updating a Record. We can update a file with current contact information so that it is available if a member of the birth family accesses the file at a future date.
Please review our FAQ for more detailed information about our Search and Reunion services.
All search fees—which may include the time of a search consultant, confidential intermediary, support staff, and administrative costs—must be paid before services begin. We use a sliding scale fee system to make these services available to everyone. This program is based in King County but is available statewide. For more information, contact Elsa Hominda, Confidential Intermediary, at (253) 380-7211 or e-mail the adoption team.
