Children's Home Society of Washington's Early Learning Center, located on the Highline Community College Campus, offers Early Head Start, Head Start, and preschool programs to students, faculty, and the surrounding community.

Most children come from a variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and here, their cultures are embraced. Parents bring in their recipes and clothing from their culture and children often teach the rest of the class words in their native language. Children are all in the same classrooms together, regardless of whether or not they are in Head Start or preschool, which helps them learn at an early age to work well together with children from different backgrounds.

"We are thrilled at being able to match our high quality early learning services with an equally high-quality facility within the culturally diverse Highline Community College community," states Cathy Garland, Director of Early Learning.

"We help children get to the
'a-ha' or 'eureka, I found it!' moment."
- Abby Ajaero, Site Supervisor

All children receive individualized learning plans to meet the unique needs of every child, since children learn at different paces. Classes are taught by trained educators who track development in cognitive, language, motor, and social-emotional skills to best prepare each child for Kindergarten. Children guided through play – and encouraged to investigate and explore.

"We help children get to the 'a-ha' or 'eureka, I found it!' moment," states Abby Ajaero, Site Supervisor.  "We are raising children to think and make decisions at an early stage in their lives. We guide them to make sure they are exactly who they are supposed to be."

The Early Learning Center is located on campus at 2400 South 240th Street, Building 0. Hours of operation are Monday - Friday, 6:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Enrollment is ongoing, so for more information or to register your child, call (206) 824-1378
