Counseling

Child and Family Counseling
In the effort to enhance the capacity of families to be safe and nurturing places for children, CHSW professionals offer counseling services in a variety of settings to children and families who face a variety of problems-problems that may affect a child's ability to succeed in school or parents' capacity to manage their household and provide guidance for their children. Counseling can help families build on their strengths and deal with their difficulties.

Child Sexual Abuse Counseling
Children who have been sexually abused and their families have unique needs. This specialized program provides services directed at lessening the emotional and psychological trauma of the abuse as well as protecting children from risk of future exploitation. Here children and families can begin the healing process. When appropriate, the program is coordinated with other legal and social services involved in child protection and law enforcement.

Children's Hospitalization Alternative Program
CHSW provides intensive in-home counseling and support services for children and youth who are at risk for hospitalization due to their mental illness. These services are intended to maintain children and youth in their homes and communities and avoid hospitalization.

CHSW's Parent Information and Resource Centers (PIRCs) serves children, parents, and educators in school districts throughout Washington by providing a variety of services that assist schools and parents in building closer home-school connections, increase parents' involvement in their children's education, and foster the developmental process of children.

PIRCs are funded in-part by the U.S. Department of Education

Parent Education and Skill-Building Classes
CHSW's series of classes covers a variety of topics aimed at preventing abuse and neglect and increasing parents' ability to nurture and support children. Classes offer information on fostering positive emotional, physical and mental development of children while promoting the well-being of the entire family. CHSW also offers groups for children, focusing on topics such as anger management and social skill-building.

Parent Trust
Parent Trust is a professionally facilitated peer support program for parents who may be feeling overwhelmed by the challenges of raising children and who want to learn new ways of coping with challenges. Groups meet weekly, allowing parents to share information and support and discuss concerns associated with parenting.

Home Visitation
The CHSW home visiting program ensures that families with children ages birth to 5 who feel isolated due to location or lack of support receive the help they need to raise healthy, thriving children. The program provides families with focused and specific services in their homes. A core team of service providers may include a home visitor, nurse, family educator and volunteers who may be expert translators, resource specialists, drug and alcohol or educational consultants.

Recreational Activities
CHSW offers a variety of recreational activities designed to promote child/parent interaction, develop and maintain strong family bonds and encourage family fun.

Resource Library and Computer Lab
A comprehensive collection of resources related to parenting, education, health, drug abuse and child development can be accessed through either of the family centers. Computers are available for families. Additionally, child health and development screening, early childhood education, food and housing assistance and family advocacy services are available through CHSW partners, housed at the North Clark County Family Resource Center.
